Environmental Testing :: Temperature & Humidity

Temperature and humidity testing is conducted to determine the products ability to function either in it’s intended use, or in extreme environments.

These tests are performed to determine the products ability to survive cold and hot temperature extremes coupled with extreme humidity. Testing can either be performed using temperature alone, or a combination of temperature and humidity.

Why test temperature & humidity?

Every product designer needs to understand their products’ end-use environment. Whether your product operates in an air-conditioned office or is used outdoors in extreme conditions depends on how far you need to test. Many industries and applications have temperature & humidity testing mandated by either regulations or industry standards.

Exposing your product to environmental stresses reduces the risk of field failures brought about by changes in climate. In particular, electronic products suffer degradation through exposure to higher temperatures, whilst metals and plastic suffer from humidity.

Our Espec ARS-1100 Chamber

The biggest chamber we have comes in at 1100x1000x1000mm (WxHxD) and is equipped with two 100mm cable ports.

Performance envelope is -75 to +180ºC and 10-98% Humidity.

The maximum ramp rate of this chamber is approximately 3-4ºC per minute, loading dependent.

Can be fitted with solar lighting to allow solar panels to charge whilst under test.

What kind of products?

Temperature & Humidity testing should be performed on all electronic products including:

  • cellphones

  • wristwatches

  • video and still cameras

  • tablet computers

  • two-way radios

  • GPS navigation systems

  • vehicle mounted systems

  • marine electronics

  • healthcare equipment

  • automotive equipment

There are a lot of applications… effectively if it’s electronic, or contains parts that are sensitive to changes in climate temperature & humidity testing are valuable tests to run.
